The ATHENA framework for cross-organizational enterprise interoperability

Abstract

SAP Research has been involved for the past three years in the ATHENA collaborative research project. This project is funded by the European Union and brings together the expertise of more than twenty partners from a host of European nations to develop innovative solutions for enterprise interoperability. This seminar will present the general framework of ATHENA as well as detail two of its most critical components, namely cross-organizational business process management and interoperability at the level of Web Services. The theoretical aspects of the problem as well as the tools developed to solve them and the impact generated by this research will be covered. Since SAP Research in Brisbane played a very active role in the project, the presentation will also touch on how to successfully perform technology transfer from a large publicly-funded project into a large enterprise software company.
