Abstract: During the last years workflow models are been used in almost every company in order to define and execute business processes. During the early years automated business processes improved and simplified the execution of a process so much that only now, after different years, the first deficiencies of this approach begin to be clear.

Actually for a company one of the main concerns is related to a correct execution a business process. More specifically companies fill the necessity to prevent a business process form a delay in its execution, an error during the processing of its data or in the worst case from a fail of the process itself.

In order to detect these unwanted situations different monitoring techniques have been developed during the years but the main problem of this techniques is the impossibility to detect a situation before it happens and to provide an automated remedial action to the "problem" detected.

The objective of this research is to develop a method for detecting and mitigating risks related to business processes. The outcomes of this project will detect risks and automate their mitigation during the execution of business processes, reducing this way the consequences of unwanted situations.

The proposed project is beneficial for the Business Process Management field as it will provide real-time support for the management of risks related to processes, thus linking the fields of Business Process Management and Risk Management.
